Mabel (y Edgardo)

Play script

Notes:

Mabel (and Edgardo) is a disjointed portrait of the average Argentine, an everyday sham, a continual allusion of fragments of that which, for convention’s sake, we call reality. A present tense narrative with no material anchor, no apparent tragedy, no consciousness of death. In Mabel members of the audience witness intimate moments in a couple’s life and may recognize others, including themselves, in the story. The focus is on the bond between Mabel and Edgardo. The actors are supported by an ascetic staging, devoid of artifice. Claudia Cantero and Matías Martínez play and experiment with the script, improvising without a text or plot line to go by. The drama fails to respect traditional rules governing scene development and offers the audience a choice among multiple readings.
