Leprosario : (trilogía poética)

Literary antecedent (Spanish)

Notes:

The play "Pájaros de la playa" by the Cuban group, El ciervo encantado, is based in part on this novel. In an interview Nelda Castillo, the director of the group, explained the reason for which she chose to base her play, in part, on the novels by Reinaldo Arenas: Q. I noticed that the group put in their C.V that you also based this play on the novels by Reinaldo Arenas. Which ones are they and why? A. Leprosorio, Antes que Anochezca Because he is one of those authors that thoroughly investigates the values of Cuban identity which interests us, from a language which is very coherent with our form of creating our theatre. Q. Why did you (the group) choose writers who (were) in exile? Was it done on purpose? A. No, it was not on purpose, it was instead a discovery of common interests. Also, later, we were interested in it as a vehicle for those to get to know Cuba, especially the younger population who did not know their literature. This way , the group converted itself into an in-between space of those (authors) that were here and created a work (and) outside (of Cuba) and those who live here (Cuba). But it was a process that started from finding common interests that started with Sarduy.
