Diaspora is a multimedia performance installation piece that fuses abstract and figurative representations of African cultures in displacement, in particular Cuba and the Caribbean. Yemaya, Yoruban goddess queen of the ocean, is portrayed with objects and artifacts form contemporary American culture. Chanting and drumming songs are originally from Nigeria, played by Cuban musicians. The exhibition space is an environment adaptable to a variety of locations. Visitors are surrounded by a quantum meaning poetic arrangement. Music, sound, and video projection help to understand and feel the presence of African mythology and perception of reality wherever this piece is installed/performed.
