Jorge Ignacio Cortiñas

Director, author / playwright, translator

Jorge Ignacio Cortiñas is playwright in residence at Bard College since 2011. He has taught at Lehigh University, University of Rochester, Denison University, University of Miami, and Children’s Theater Center, Minneapolis. He worked in San Francisco for many years in progressive Latino and queer organizations and as an AIDS activist. He studied playwrighting with Octavio Solís, Cherrie Moraga, and María Irene Fornés, and eventually received his MFA from Brown University. He is a resident playwright of New Dramatists since 2004, and a Usual Suspect at New York Theatre Workshop.
