Miracle Theater Group
Notes: +
Northwest's premiere Latino Arts and Culture organization, Miracle Theater Group presents the work of important Latin@ playwrights, artists, and scholars to general audiences and especially to local low- and moderate-income, Spanish-speaking audiences. It was founded in 1985 by José Eduardo González, Executive Artistic Director, and Danielle Malan, Teatro Milagro Artistic Director. In 1986 they founded the Ancient Greek Theatre Festival, and in 1989 the first Hispanic Cultural Festival. Both festivals ran until 1992. In 1995, they moved to their present home and in 1997 they bought the building which now houses their theater, El Centro Milagro's Mainstage. The group organizes three different programs:
Miracle Mainstage presents both adult and family oriented artistic productions, commissioned from the ranks of the company's resident playwrights, as well as plays by accomplished Hispanic writers from the USA and abroad. Olga Sanchez is Artistic Director.
Teatro Milagro is the international touring theatre company of the Miracle Theatre Group. They produce cutting edge dramatic plays infused with Latino culture, Spanish language and original music.
Bellas Artes formed to expand Miracle's capacity as the center for artistic exploration and education. Bellas Artes now offers the community acting and writing classes in English and in Spanish.
The group publishes the electronic newsletter Miracle Insider.
