Santiago is a graduate of the Seminario de Dramaturgia del Teatro Nacional de Cuba. In 1959, he founded the children's theatre movement. He has worked as actor, director, choreographer, dancer and puppeteer. He has been living in New York since 1979. More biographical information is available in Spanish.
